The Beverly Hillbillies Bible Study

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; He did not say anything to them without using a parable. (Matthew 13:34)

To teach a lesson, Jesus often used a parable – an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Our Lord knew everything about the wonderful power of storytelling.

Following his example, how exciting would it be if you could use modern parables, with the appeal to attract both young and old, to illustrate eternal Biblical principles?

With practical applications for daily living, The Beverly Hillbillies Bible Study features classic episodes with relevant scriptures for you to use as modern parables on the teachings of Jesus.

The Beginning (Study #1)

The Clampett's show us how being "blessed" is different for us all and we learn how God blesses us every day.

The Biblical theme is BLESSINGS.

Getting Settled (Study #2)

Watch what happens when the Clampetts arrive at their mansion and encounter a cement cattle pond, a stove with no stovepipe, and one lone "chicken" – with pink feathers and stretch legs too! Lucky for the Clampetts, there's no place like home!

The Biblical theme is CHANGE,
and the key scripture can be found in Ecclesiastes 3:1,2b:
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:...a time to plant and a time to uproot."

The Clampetts Meet Mrs. Drysdale (Study #3)

A simple misunderstanding causes complicated consequences after Mr. Drysdale asks the Hillbillies to hide their still from his wife, and the Clampetts assume it's because Mrs. Drysdale must be a drinking woman!

The Biblical theme is TRUTH,
and the key scripture is Proverbs 23:23:
"Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding."

Elly Needs a Maw (Study #4)
Track the effects of multiple motives as Jed looks for a maw for Elly, the Widow Fenwick looks for a fellow real estate investor and Mr. Drysdale looks for a way to land both of them at his bank. It's the tale of the matchmaker banker and the mismatched millionaires!

The Biblical theme is MOTIVES,
and the key scripture can be found in 1 Chronicles 28:9:
"… For the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts."
